Movie Quote Meme.

Pick 10 of your favorite movies.
Go to imdb.com and find a quote from each movie.
Post them on your blog for everyone to guess.
Strike it out when someone guesses correctly and put who guessed it and the movie. No cheating!

I will give you a hint. These are some of my favorite movies and if you don't watch a lot of old movies...you'll probably be stumped.

1) "Miss Kelly, perhaps you'd like this flower. I seem to have misplaced my buttonhole." (Harvey~ Millie, aka Mom)

2) "I wouldn't give you two cents for all your fancy rules if, behind them, they didn't have a little bit of plain, ordinary, everyday kindness and a little looking out for the other fella, too."

3) "My father used to say that if we ever had the money you have, we would eat steak and ice cream three times everyday."

4) "Keep your pantyhose on. "

5) "Would you stop feeling sorry for yourself? It's bad for your complexion." ( Sixteen Candles ~Marianne)

6) "Esteem him? Like him? Use those insipid words again and I shall leave the room this instant." (Sense and Sensability ~Sue)

7)"He'll regret it till his dying day, if ever he lives that long." (The Quiet Man~KP)
8) "Now see here, if you are going to marry him on my money you are very much mistaken. I don't want another lunatic in the family I have lunatic enough all ready."

9) "I always thought it was a ridiculous name for a prison. Sing Sing, I mean. Sounds more like it should be an opera house or something." (Breakfast at Tiffany's ~Kim "Idaho Gal")

10) "Boys are always guilty of something nasty. What could it be this time, I wonder?"

It's Quilting Time People!

Oh yes, it seems as though I'm learning a new skill. Guess what! It's going to be an expensive addiction too, I can tell already. I have my strips done for half the blocks of my Double Irish Chain Quilt. All I have to do now is use my handy old rotary cutter and turn them into mini 2 1/2 inch strips. No problem. I think this weekend I'm going to cut and sew and cut again the strips for the larger blocks that I have to make. I'm waiting until I'm in class to sew everything together in blocks though. Even at this rate, I'm ahead of the other gals in my class. One of them was having a terrible time cutting strips. It's not that hard...maybe she's a spaz. Spaz or not, shes a sweet friendly lady with a great sense of humor about her issues with the rotary cutter. I told her it was like cutting pizza and she said she uses scissors to cut pizza. I must have looked at her funny because she started laughing and I said, "There is no hope for you. You better pack up and go home." That really cracked her up. I love people that you can joke around with and the get that its a joke.
I'm hauling my sewing machine to class next Monday because I really cant stand the machine that I had to use at my station on Wens. Oh Dear Lord that machine was bad. It had one speed, which was super fast. I'd have to push the foot thingy all the way down before it would go and then it WWWEEEEENNNNNNTTTTT so darn fast I almost threw my shoulder out. Plus I don't want to look like an idiot because I can't thread that machine. I only know how to thread the one that my Mom bought me because its super easy. I think its the machine featured in the Idiots guide to Sewing machines...lol, just kidding.
I'll post more pics as my quilt evolves.

The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett

"Brother Cuthburt was usually to be found here, for his job did not leave him much time for services, which suited his inclination: he was a clever down-to-earth fellow with little interest in the spiritual life. The cellarer was the material counterpart of the sacrist: Cuthburt had to provide for all the monks' practical needs, gathering in the produce of the monastery's farms and granges and going to market to buy what the monks and their employees could not provide themselves. The job required careful forethought and calculation."

Tagging Five:
Mandy
Cindy
Kare

Oh and by the way, this is probably the best book I have read in years. I love it. Warning: It's a long book. We are talking 973 pages in total. I'm half way through it.

Guess Who's 50 today...followed by sad news...

Uncle Lonnie, that's who...and he still looks the same. Giggle, snort, lol. Aunt Vickie and I put an ad in the paper for his birthday. It contained this picture. Oh, Dear Lord, he looked like a dork...kind of still does. I say that with nothing but love. His wife, otherwise known as my Aunt Deanna....well she wasn't a happy camper when I spoke to her last night. Nope. She has caught a lot of hell over that picture in the paper...even though the ad said that it was placed by Lonnies "younger sister", cough, cough....RRRRRighttt, whatever..."and her partner in crime...Don't know? Just A.S.K." So basically, that tells you it was Vickie and his little ole niece. My initials spell ASK. Anyway, he thinks she gave us that picture. I told her that for the right amount of money we might actually tell him that she had nothing to do with it. I won't do it for free...hell, it cost us to put the ad in the paper. I'll tell the truth if it means I will get my investment back. Yes, I am evil that way. I've already been told that I better watch my back. I'm not to worried. I have 26 months before I turn 40 and I told her I was leaving the country for that birthday. I don't think she believed me. It's so true....I want to take a trip. I'm thinking France in the spring would be nice...or maybe I will go tropical. Anyone that wants to help me celebrate my big 40th can. Start saving money now. I'll let you know where we can meet up. Hmmm...maybe Egypt. I could blow out a candle on a cupcake from the base of a pyramid. That could be cool, unless its windy. I don't want to eat a cupcake that has sand on it.

On a sadder note, Grandma Martha passed away yesterday morning. I fly home on Wensday for the funeral on Friday. It was time for her to pass. She was fighting it but her condition was pretty bad. She couldn't really communicate anymore, she had trouble eating and drinking. Her quality of life was a big fat zero, she was all skin and bones...her skin was so thin. Yep, she was 92 and would have been 93 in April. That's a nice long life. I have some fun stories to share about her...but I can't now. I have to much to do to get ready for my flight home.

It's her birthday...

...and she'll cry if she wants to. My cousins daughter is celebrating her birthday today. Yep, she's 16. I sent her present already and its been killing her not to open in. Ah, yes, but she knows that I am evil that way. I actually teased her and said I was going to post an old pic of her. I would have but she got lucky. Our scanner isn't working right. Talk about great birthday gifts...lol, she should be excited about that.

I need help..

I am so sick of the same old supper, night after night. Does anyone have any good recipes that they could send my way? I'm talking about stuff you have made many times and loved. Yeah, don't you dare try to pass off something that you found online and have not tried. I don't want to be your test monkey. I need to shake things up around here or I'm going to loose my mind.

Where have I been? Well...

I have had a bit of the Winter Blahs. Don't worry, its not contagious. However, just incase...I decided to make sure I wasn't passing them on to anyone else by not blogging. I just didn't feel that I had anything to say. Well, not anything positive or funny. It seems like the last month and a half have been full of sad things, not just for me but for some of my dearest friends as well. It's hard to be happy go lucky when your friends are upset and hurting. I just needed a break to catch my second wind.
I was told today that I need to blog. I think I do too. I'm going to start posting again. I'm also going to start crafting again. I need to get use to the fact that Spring isn't going to be here for a while and I'm going to have to make my own warm weather feeling. I may have to hit the booze and sit to close to my table lamp. Hey, those suckers build up some heat.

Consider yourself warned!

Netter is back!

Pray for my Aunts speedy recovery....

Dear Lord, I swear! I was just thinking the other night, how quiet things have been in our family. Now this happens. Some guys robbed the Pizza Hut that my Aunt works at. They went in 10 minutes before closing with guns and ski masks. ACtually, you can read the story in the paper by clicking on the hyperlink above.

There were three gals working. A young high school girl, my Aunt and the manager who happens to be the mother of one of my h.s. classmates. My Aunt and the Manager are in the hospital...beaten to a pulp. The doctors are waiting for the swelling to go down to see how badly the bone around her eye socket is broken. Her nose is a mess too. My cousin told me that her Mom just remembers her head being slammed against the ceramic tile floor over and over again.

Why the hell those jerks had to beat them is beyond me. They handed over the money right away and they did everything they were told to do. They laid down on the floor when they said to...grrr. Plus, It sounds like they walked into it thinking only one person was there. My Aunts car was parked there, but the other ladies were dropped off. I'd put good cash on it that it was a bunch of dumb ass druggies. I hope they catch them and lock their butts up. Personally, I think they need to be locked away for life...but they have to catch them first.

Linda will be in the hospital for a few days. She doesn't have health insurance right now...Does workmans comp cover being beaten by theives while you are on the clock? I sure hope so.

I just hate that this has happened to her. She's had a tough life. Why is it that it seems to pour on some people and while others live charmed lives. It bites. It really does.

When life gives you snow....you make...

Yes, when life hands you snow, you make snowmen. Unless your sleds are easily accessable, which ours are not. Oh and you make snow angels, but not until you are so cold you can't stand it anymore...otherwise you will never finish the snowman. Yes, while Cliff and Sam built this bad boy, Nancy scooped the rest of the driveway. I only scooped a path for the painter and mailman to get to the house and I did the sidewalk so I could find the papers under all that white stuff. Yep, I stayed inside and gave them directions on how to improve thier snowman. The orange eyes were my idea.

It snowed...whooptie do....and it its still snowing...

I wish I could say that I woke up to this crap this morning, however the truth is that I drove in it between 1:00 and 2:30AM. I had to pick Sam and Nancy up from JFK. Their flight had been delayed and when I left the house at 1 AM, it had just started snowing. It was fine snow but very moist. I was OK until I got through Rockville Centre and then Sunrise Hwy was sliiiick. I went, at the most, 25 miles per hour the rest of the way to JFK. On the Belt Parkway a guy in a SUV passed me like a freakin' freight train. A little later, I passed him along the side of the road. He had tried to change lanes to go to JFK also and had slid across the Parkway and hit the guard rail. I wish I could say that it was the first and last accident I passed. Nope, there were several more. People just don't know how to drive in snow out here. You'd think they would. I guess its just a matter of them forgetting that snow can be slick in the most unlikely places. Hence we saw a three car pile up as we left the airport, another car slid off the Belt Parkway, hit a light pole, knocking it completely over and then went through a chain link fence only to face the wrong way and blocking part of the entrance ramp to the service road. There were three more along Sunrise Hwy. I'm from Nebraska...so I was fine. I was more worried about people playing pinball and hitting me.
Needless to say, we got home unscathed, but I tossed and turned in bed until 5:15 AM. I think after the stress of watching all those freaks play bumper car, I was to geared up to sleep, I got up at 7AM and scooped a path in the driveway, in case Georg (he's Greek...that is how he spells his name) the painter shows up...if he shows up. Sam's going to be pissed. The only real snow we've had this year and there is no school because of break...he's been dying for a snow day, poor kid.
I feel like I need a nap.

Oh Happy Day...from me to you...

Happy Valentine's Day to you! Enjoy your day, eat Chocolate, smell some flowers. Oh and a very Happy Birthday to Kelley. Was it really 18 years ago today that I drove to Lincoln in all that slush to see Michelle and her new little baby girl? Goodness!

giggle fits, sore throats and sad news

I woke up this morning with a killer sore throat. At first, I thought I had spent the night snoring or breathing with my mouth open. The air is kind of dry in the house right now so that would make sense. I figured I'd give myself some time to see if the feeling went away after I was up and showered, had a nice drink of ice water, ect. Well, to my displeasure, my throat still feels as crappy as it did when I woke up. On top of that, I feel as sluggish and miserable as I did when I first opened my eyes. I decided to take it easy today. Yep, that means I'm curling up on the sofa with a good book (Pillars of the Earth) and some hot tea with honey. I might work on my felted cuff bracelet some more ore knit a little, maybe start some granny squares....who knows!

Oh, this is strange... I woke myself up at 2AM laughing. I must have had a dream or something, but I honestly don't remember having one. I was just laughing so hard, like when you are on the verge of tears and you are trying to catch your breath. Yeah, I was splitting a gut, snorting with laughter. I'd no longer stop than to start up again. Once I realized that I had no idea why I was laughing, I laughed harder. It was totally out of control. When I finally stopped I just sat there confused and oddly amused by the whole situation. I laid in bed for at least 45 minutes, racking my brain, trying to remember what I had been laughing about before I finally fell back asleep. If I end up Britney's room mate at the hospital, will you guys visit me? No, no, I don't think it will come to that. Maybe if I start having giggle fits during the middle of the day and don't know why I'm laughing, well...maybe then.

My Mom called me earlier. She said that Grandma was going into the hospital. The nurses at her Home had called to let Mom and Dad know that Grandma had been running fevers and that her fluid output has dropped. Her Kidneys are giving out on her. I have been thinking about Grandma a lot lately, perhaps because her health both mentally and physically have been nose diving. I knew I would get a call like this one day, sooner than later. I let my bosses know that there is a chance that I may have to fly home for a funeral soon. Big case or no big case, I'm going. I know they can find someone to come spend the night with Sam so he's not here by himself at night because that freaks him out. Stick my Grandma in your nightly prayer list.

By far the best Super Bowl I ever watched...

BY FAR! Probably one of the best 4th quarters of a Super Bowl to boot. I'm not a fan of either teams but I always feel like I have to go with the under dog...which means I went with the Giants. That game was down to the wire. OMG, it was good. I was at the Leaches and Jim was freaking out.

When I left I could hear people celebrating all over town. It was the funniest thing ever. On a side note...the commercials were kind of boring this year. Oh sure there were a few good ones, but on a whole, I was a little disappointed in the ads....thank goodness the game was great.

Family news...

My Cousin Billy and his Wife are expecting a baby in August...this is his/her first picture.

Aunt Carole and Uncle Gary finally sold their home in California and have recently found a new home in Kansas....I know, I know, Kansas of all places. I'm not saying a word. Ok, fine, I'll type it...Nebrasky is better. Aww, I feel better now. All that really matters is that they find a place that will make them happy.

Aunt Vickie and Uncle John are still trying to convince me that they have a real grand daughter. I'll admit that I fell for it at first but I'm sure they are renting that baby. The kicker is that Jeff and Marla...the "parents" of the "baby" are totally going along with it. I call Arianna the "rent-a-baby." Why do I believe she isn't real? #1- I have never met her. Last Summer Jeff and Marla were in Tecumseh with the "baby" while I was back but they never stopped by my parents home. (I didn't know they were down until after they left) On top of that, they didn't come to Christmas this year. Hmmm, instead Vickie shows up with some pictures with the rent-a-baby in it. I'll admit they spent some good money on a cute baby but she's still a rental. #2- I have never received a picture of the "baby" from her "parents" hence my suspicion that she's not genuine. What real parents don't send out pictures? I didn't get a birth announcement...I didn't get a Christmas picture card that everyone and their dog sends out these days. Hmmm...yeah, sounds fishy to me. Yep, it's a rent-a-baby. I bet they just borrow the neighbors baby or something. I think I will need better proof that she is real. Maybe an official state birth certificate that has a raised stamp on it, some pictures from her parents, to see her for real this summer. Yeah, maybe then I will believe it.

Wendy was the winner....and her banners are done

Wendy won my little contest and as a prize I said I would make her a banner. She wanted one that combined her daughters birthdays. Since they are not twins, I couldn't let them share a banner even thought they both have May birthdays. So, I said I would make two. It really doesn't take me that long and I have been in the mood to make them, so I went with the flow. When people watch me make my banners the are always shocked that I don't use a pencil to sketch things out. I'm wing it kind of gal. I get a permanent black marker, start with the balloons on the end and work my way right across the banner paper. I do the hollow bubble letters and once I am all done, I make random designs inside each letter. (note below one of the banners is colored in, the other was ready for me to start on it.) After that is done, I color them in trying to keep the colors seperated a little bit. If I make a booboo, or my design is a little flawed, I just go with the flow and move on. Most people don't notice anyway, unless ofcourse you spell something wrong, which I have been known to do. I am dyslexic you know. Letters just seem to pop up in strange places. Once the coloring is done, I go over it with a bottle of clear drying glue and top that off with a crystal clear glitter for that added POW. Several people have said I should sell my banners. I wouldn't even know what to charge. For now, I'll just make them when the mood strikes and the need is great. If I'm not in the mood to make one, I'm not shy about refusing.

Now aren't you upset you didn't figue out that my other banner said, "Happy 50th Birthday Bill!"

Tisha or Rue....hmmm.

Anyone that knew my Sister Tisha as baby or toddler, knows that Rue looks just like her Mommy did. It's scary how much she looks like her. She even does some of these crazy little things that Tisha did. For example, Tisha used to do this thing where she would be standing or even sitting and she would start swinging one arm back and forth, kind of in an arch around her body. Her body didn't twist, just her arm. When I was home over Christmas, Rue was doing the same thing. It's not because Tisha still does it and copied her. Actually, I had almost forgotten about it until I saw Rue do it. It will be interesting to see what other things have in common. Things could get interesting...very, very interesting.

The Iron Fairies

"Deep beneath the garden's ground, lay a labyrinth of tunnels where people abound..."
I have meant to post about one of my Christmas gifts...my favorite actually. Raine gave her to me. Once again, she ignored Chris and went into a store, finding something I would love. Her name is Amy and she now sits on my bedroom window. She comes wrapped up in cloth with instructions that are very specific about her care. When you take your fairy home for the first night, you must be sure to place her in a position where she will receive the next morning's sunlight. Each Fairy has been locked away since she left the finishing room, deep beneath the garden's ground, so she has never seen sunlight. It comes with a small packet of rust colored glitter "Iron Fairy Glitter." It is imperative that you sprinkle the dust on your fairy that same night as well, Oh! And you must make a wish. So I did. I want to visit the NYC store but Raine has forbidden it. Hmmmm. To obey or to disobey...what to do, what to do?!
I really need to go there and get the book they publish so I can get into the mines on the website. You can't do it unless you can answer certain questions. Dang it. I'll wait until after my birthday. Anyway, I just love her...hopefully she won't rust this summer. I live on the bay, its humid, you know. Cross your fingers for me.

I'll try...

...yes, I will try not to post at odd hours of the night/early morning. My brain doesn't function well when I'm tired but can't sleep. I need skip blogging and go right to a book. Even if I read the same paragraph over and over again.

Yeah, I think that is a better idea. So, ummm...ignore the prior post.

Hey Toto....

I don't think we are in Kansas anymore! I saw this sign at a local Museum and it made want to break into song....Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow the Yellow Brick Road. I may have skipped along, I'm not admitting to it, but there is a slight chance that it might have happened. You can't prove anything. Ummm, I didn't see the Emerald City but I did see an Emerald Taurus Station wagon. Does that count? There were no Lions but there were two wild domestic cats. Hey, come to think of it they were cowardly. Maybe they thought Toto was around somewhere. Oh, and there wasn't a tin man, but there were several bronze statues, with bare butts. I have a picture of one, so I can totally prove that. No Scarecrows, after all its hardly garden season anymore and they only have formal gardens at the museum, not corn fields. I did see a few witches but only because their orthopedic shoes were killing them. I'm not sure where the Lolly Pop Kids were hiding but I'm sure they must have been around because I saw some wrappers blowing across the lawn. Maybe they were with the flying monkeys, because they didn't show their creepy little heads either.

If you have no idea what I'm referring to.... well, we need to have a serious talk.

I can't tell you yet....

I am working on a banner for an event that a friend is throwing. I can't tell you what. It's a surprise. I figure you can't tell who it is for by looking at a multi-exposure picture, so here you go. More on the completed project after its safe to post freely. It's not done anyway. I need to add glitter. Let's face it, nothing says "PARTY" like something smothered in glitter. Hey, if you guess exactly who and what this banner is for, you can win a tiny prize. However, that means the event planner is not allowed to enter, cause that would just be unfair. You have to say exactly who and what it is for. Yeah, this is a hard one.

Where's my camera?!

Emily says I make her do embarrassing stuff. OK, its true, I do tend to make her do stuff that embarrasses her. Honestly, its entertaining to me. I start out being all sweet and sing songie....saying, "Oh come on, let me take a picture so you can see how funny it looks." When she says no, I get bossy and tell her to "suck it up" or authoritative by demanding she "DO IT NOW!" Yes, I get demanding. Let's face it, you can't let hats like these pass you by without a photo opportunity. You'd have to be crazy to miss out on this fun. Unfortunately for her, I carry my camera around for just such occasions. HEY, you know, now that I think about it.... her birthday is coming up and I might just have to buy the bright pink beanie with the froo froo stuff on top for a gag gift. I can hear her voice get all high pitched and erratic. Kind of like the time I told her we would be at the museum for at least 6 hours. That was priceless, I could hear the fear in her voice...lol. I'll make sure I pee before she opens it...I know I'm going to be crying with joy. Her face will be priceless. I'm not totally mean, I'll get her something nice to hide at the bottom of the box.
