Have you wondered where I have been?

It's a very rare event for me to go almost an entire week without posting on my blog. Even if nothing is going on, I still find something to blab about. Well, I have been busy planning a baby shower. The date is set for Oct 28th...my ticket to Nebraska is purchased, the HUGE guest list is in order, the envelopes addresses and now I'm just waiting on a few things before I continue with the actual invitation and set the details in gold. I've picked out a few party supplies and have placed the order. We know who will make the cake, we have a rough idea of the food we will serve, ect, ect. I even have a couple of shower games that should be fun. If anyone has any unusual ideas pass them my way. I don't want to give to much away, since quite a few of my readers are family and will be invited. A girl has to have her secrets.

On the home front... I'm busy trying to get somewhere with the issues we have with the house. We have a major structural issue that we need to resolve. It's a headache..it really is. So I had two guys say they won't touch a job like this but they passed me on to someone that can handle it and does excellent work. He in turn gave me the name of a draftsman that works with an architect who will need to draw up the plans for the CORRECT way to resolve the issues before the wall drops anymore. YEAH....lovely. Anyway, I put in my calls for the day and had all but one returned. Not bad...not bad at all.

I received a package in the mail yesterday from my friend Raine. She sent me a bunch of goodies and my watch! Then my friend Lorie from CT called and she is coming down tomorrow to hang out. I'm hoping I can talk her into going shopping for a few things that I need for a new project. I've always got a few things going at once. I also finished two sets of Christmas ornaments. I wish I could post them but I can't.....not until after Christmas. Dang! I just used stuff that I already have around the house. I'm determined to use up supplies before I invest in more. Stop laughing...I'm serious! Yeah, yeah, I know, I know.....but atleast I'm giving it a try. I'll have lots of time to work on things because I'm not spending any money for the next few weeks. Between, party stuff, flights, and my new digital camera that I ordered...I've decided to build up my cash stock pile before having to much fun. Oh, who am I kidding, I'll have fun doing crafts at home and reading my latest bloggers book club selection. I have tons to do.

Well, enough of this. I'm off to get some things done before Sam gets home. I have to make two huge batches of
Sue's Meatballs for Sams band night at 5:30 at the school. It was his request...so you know the kid loves those meatballs. I also want to get some more laundry done. Toodles! I'll be posting more...I really will. Atleast you know I'm not dead yet.

It's the sicko's birthday

My Katie is sick...and it just happens to be her 19th birthday today. Yep, 9/11...and she is off at her college, feeling lousy. Poor Kaitlin...poor, poor, Kaitlin Rose....the sick girl at F&M. I'm hoping that she has the energy to go to her post office box and pick up all of her birthday presents...that is if they actually arrived. Cross your fingers in the hopes that the USPS actually delivered them and that Katie feels better after a good nights sleep.

I stand corrected

Mom doesn't want to be called Grandma. Only because she doesn't like the Grandma Millie/Grandma Loretta confusion....so she says she is going to be Granny. She kind of reminds me of Granny off of the Beverly Hillbillies....lol...she'll really kill me for that. Well, I may try to talk her into Nana. I think Nana and Pops has a good ring to it if we can't do the Grandma and Grandpa bit.

I have decided...

Now that my parents are going to be Grandparents in a matter of two months...sheesh, I'm going to start refering to my Mother as Grandma Millie....lol, just to get her used to the idea. Dad can stay Pops, because that is a good name for a Grandfather. I wonder if he stopped to pick up a new fishing pole for the baby yet? I mean, he just found out last night....but you never know with him.

Super Freak, super freak, she's super freaky...

My sister called me today while I was at the grocery store. I hate talking on the cell while I'm in a public place but she said she had a quick question for me.

She asked, "Does Deanna still have your car seat?" (I took care of a little girl 16 years ago and I had a carseat for her. I loaned it to Deanna when she started her day care but she trashed it so I told her she'd just have to buy me a new one when and if I needed one.)
I said, "No, she owes me one though. Why, are you going to be taking care of someone's little kid for a while?"
Tisha said, "No, I'm having one."
I thought my cell cut out or something. Tisha has been told it would be impossible for her to get preggers without invitro and expensive treatments, if even then. She's been married for 11 plus years and has never used birth control because it wasn't an issue.

Here is the kicker...she has been very sick this year. She has had a terrible time keeping food down and has gone to the doctor many, many times because if it. She's had tests, she's had 3 pregnancy tests, she's had ultra sounds of her internal organs....kidneys, ect. but they never went low enough to see a little baby. Why? Because each pregnancy test comes back negative...so everyone thought she wasn't preggers and anyway, that would have been short of a miracle.
Her back has been killing her. She went to the doctor today and they took an x-ray which showed a fractured disk in her lower back....AND A BIG OLD BABY, so they only took one x-ray and had her wait for the doctor. It took a while for her to show up because she was looking into what medication Tisha had been on the last few months and if that would have caused any problems for the baby, thank goodness they have said that everything should be fine.
The doc comes in and tells Tisha that she has a fractured vertebrae and that she is about 30 weeks along. Tisha then said, "30 weeks along with what?" She was a bit confused. The doctor told her she was about 30 weeks pregnant. I don't think Tisha really believed her. The doctor had to show her the x-ray..which showed the baby, very clearly and Tisha had to lean against the wall. LOL!
So here I am,....yelling, "Holy Shit! 30 weeks!" Tisha said, "yeah, that is what they are guessing but I have to go in so they get a better idea. She also has to see a specialist in Omaha on the 18th.
Yes, my poor Sister who has been sicker than a dog for months and months, my sister who isn't supposed to be able to get pregnant...my sister who is due somewhere between the end of October and the beginning of November....is making me an Auntie for real. This would totally explain the vomiting, the upset stomach, the funny feeling in her gut. She has never had a normal period and she's allergic to the main ingredient in birth control pills so they could never put her on them to regulate her, so not having one wasn't something to worry about. And look at what we have now.... She's packing a friggin muffin, Holy crap!
Now, for anyone that knows my Sister, she is a medical nightmare. She always has something strange happening...something hard to diagnosis. She's a total freak. Her doctors even said they hope the baby doesn't take after their Mother in that department. The nurses said that it was just pure luck that Tisha had that x-ray, or it was very possible that she would be one of those ladies that show up at the emergency room in labor and not knowing that they were preggers.
I asked her if she was getting a poofy stomach. She said she thought she was just bloated and she had been drinking a lot of water and eating healthy anyway because she was trying to keep things down and had lost 25 plus pounds from throwing up so she was trying to be super healthy.

I'm going to be an AUNT! YESSSSSS! Do you think I could talk her into letting me name it? lol...no way in hell, I'm sure.
OMG....OMG, OMG, OMG........OMG!!!!
That is all I can say right now because I don't have the go ahead to spill the beans....but stay tuned, people, this is a good one!
It's killing me...but this is the way it has to be.

Six times...six freaking times!

I decided I was going to get some things done while I waited for the electrician to come this morning. I decided to start in the bathroom so I cleaned the shower, sink and toilet and decided while I was down here, I'd clean the washer. You know how washers get that funny little ring around the top...and the fabric softener gets gunky sometimes, well I can't stand that. It's just gross so I figured this would be the perfect time to clean it up. I get my rag out and some cleaning products and just as I am getting ready to spray...the phone rings. I take care of that business....go back to the cleaning. Phone rings again....I answer it, take care of something else...head back to the washer. I pick up the bottle, AGAIN...yes, AGAIN that stupid phone rings. In all, that happened six times before I said to hell with this! I walked away from the washer and I have spent the last hour, call free. Now you know that if I go back into the laundry room that stinking phone will ring and I will flip out. I can tell already....its going to be one of those days. Wanna take bets on when the electrician shows? I bet I will sit around all day, then if I decide to run to the post office or go into the back yard...he'll show up. I just bet you. Oh well, tis life. I'ts enough to drive you nuts.

Awwww...that's Chris!

So I was sitting here and I suddenly get a new email....YEAH! I notice its from Chris, so I get excited thinking its something fun or he has some kind of news for me. I open it up to find this:
yo annette,

I need your information for my security clearance. You are going to serve as a person to tell the government that I did live at 33 Powell Avenue. Thanks

hope everything is going good (i'm at work and in a hurry...hence the shortness of this email)

-Chris

Shoooooooot! I was hoping he had some juicy girlfriend gossip to tell me about. Nope, no such luck, he just needs me. Awwwww, Chris needs me! lol, I think when I get their call, I'm going to say, Chris who?" That would serve him fight for using "yo" and my name in the same greeting. No, no, just kidding. Anyway, I should be glad he didn't use "ho" insted of "yo". Katie would have, but it would be a term of love and admiration coming from her. Yeha, cause she's a freak like that. (Love you Katie!) Well, it looks like the old ex-nanny is coming in handy afterall.

A Madwoman went on vacation...

...and she sent me fun stuff! I've been meaning to post this pic for some time but I had to charge the battery for my digital camera first. That would mean actually locating the charger and plugging the sucker in. Sounds easier than it really was. Yes, sad but true. Anyway, Kim was so sweet and picked me up some postcards...we know how I love those suckers and some fun things like a UFO drivers license and attachments for my keys. I loooooved the key ring because it is quite hard to find a key chain with my name on it. Let's face it...Annette is not a popular nor a cool name. What does that say about my parents? Hmmmm...anyway, thank you so much Kim. I sent a very special card to you today. Don't ask, you'll see.....lol.

Thank you Brandy!

I was so excited when I got home today. The mail came at its normal time but there wasn't a package in it. I left for an hour and when I came back, there it was...the package from Brandy. She made me this lovely purse. I LOOOOOOOVE it. I'm going shopping this weekend to get a brown wallet so I'll match. It's just perfect, its a great size, the right colors, and I love the flower buttons she put on the side. It's perfect, just perfect. Thank you so much Brandy!

Look out!

Uncle John and Aunt Vickie are going to be grandparents. Yep, she sent out an email today, letting everyone know that Marla and Jeff are in the family way and expecting in the end of March. How exciting! Jez, Vickie couldn't even wait to let Marla and Jeff share the news themselves....hehehe. She's excited! So am I! Congratulations Marla and Jeff. I guess I better get on Moms case about finishing up those baby blankets so she can add another one to her list.
I NEED YOUR HELP! OMG..... I need to find the Wal-Mart that sells these mirrors!!

Awwww, nothing like a tag sale...

Jean called me a bit ago...we are going to hit a few tag and garage sales. We have not done that in quite a while. If I can find my digital camera battery charger, I'll take some pictures of the crap we drag home. It's usually scary, however that is part of the fun, isn't it. I need a little desk chair. I keep thinking I'll find one by chance when I am driving the day before trash pick-up. Why buy it when you can get it for free. I have no problem stripping and sanding furniture.

I'm off!

Its a tough job....but someone has to do it.

After 37 years of marriage, my Mother has learned the hard way, that Pop can not be left to do things on his own accord. He makes a terrible mess...so SOMEONE has to keep an eye on him. Posted by Picasa

A lesson from my Uncle.

I bet you think this is going to be about the importance of saving. Ah ha, you are totally wrong. When I was a kid, I had a glass piggy bank just like the one to the left. These banks do not have a plug to remove the money so if you put in a quarter, you could consider it gone forever. Atleast that is how it felt as a kid. When Uncle Randy lived with us for a while after he got into some trouble for messing around with the county attorneys daughter...he taught me a little trick. Yeah, when you are 5 and have a 15 year old Uncle kicking you out of your bedroom and forcing you to share with your little sister, well...he's lucky I even talked to him. Seriously, I liked playing in "MY" closet....and he would catch me in there and escort me to the hall. DANG IT! It was my room first, sheesh! Anyway, Randy taught me a trick that came in pretty useful. First you lay on your back. With one hand you hold the bank upside down so you are looking in the slot. Careful...it gets heavy and if you are not careful, you will have a swollen nose or black eye. With the other hand, you take a butter knife and you stick it in the hole. You make little jabbin' motions with the knife and every once and a while pull it out. You will discover that it turns the coins so that they fall out, onto your face, one or two or even more at a time. BINGO! JACKPOT! EUREKA! Posted by Picasa
Now, the key is to sneak out of the house, cross the forbidden alley way, pass the post office and into the corner bakery on the other end of your block(the bakery sat where the flagpole is in the picture)...buy a freshly made glazed donut, scarf it down on the way back to the house, without being spotted and walk back into the house a little stickier but with no one any the wiser. By anyone...I mean my Mother. It was one of those times in life when having a little sister was pretty handy...she made a great decoy.

Ernesto kicked the little scouts butt...and good!

Man, oh man....the weather was rotten today and this little clip of the storm, early in the day before it started doing all the damage to Sam's boat. The video was taken early on, before it got really bad, but you get the picture. The new head line we put on broke from all the pressure and our neighbor was kind enough to notice the boat was loose in the front and he roped it back up for us. Sam and his parents were in New Jersey visiting his Grandparents and so I was left with the mess of the storm. I mean, sure I could have left but I didn't think that was such a good idea. We had several leaks on the top of our sliding patio doors, which has never happened before. It was just the wind....it was driving so hard and in never gave up. Then there was the boat which really was getting beaten up. Our neighbor Ray and his friend were out on the docks trying to get his jetski back on its pad because the waves were so bad that they knocked it off into the water and it was ramming into the bulk head. By the time I noticed him, he was in a wet suit, with life vest on, riding the thing in the waves with ropes tied on it and his friend trying to help by pulling it on the pad. I finally told him that it was useless, the waves were just to rough. We ended up using all our extra rope and we tied it up from four directions between our pilings and his in the front and off our dock cleats in the rear. Our other neighbor Jeff and his wife, Paula came outside too. Jeff was the guy who put the new head line on after the new one broke. He was helping secure a large boat for an older gentleman on the other side of Ray. The old guy uses a cane so the wind was enough to keep him on the sidelines. Jeff helped us with Rays jetski, explained to Ray that he had to keep an eye on the old guys boat because if it broke loose, it was going to smash into Rays boat that was on a special floating lift. Then I went in search of more rope and had to make do with a waterski line which we tied to the front of the boat and ran the cord over to one of Jeff's pilings, hoping it would help keep Sam's boat out of the dock. We already had a small hole in the side, but it is a foam core boat so it wasn't in danger of sinking yet.
Over the course of the day, the storm didn't let up...it just pounded us and at one point the tie on the back of the boat broke. I went to ask Jeff if he had anymore rope and was searching for more too, when we met up in the backyard, we both decided it was useless to try to tie it up. The waves were so large, at least 5 foot swells that it would throw the boat into and on top of the dock. There was no safe way for us to get a rope onto the boat. At that point, when the boat would hit a wave, the front would fly up very high, so high that when it hit the bottom of the wave, the back of the boat, engine and all went up so high you couldn't see the front of the boat at all....just the engine and the bottom of the boat. I said, "Oh, hell no, we are not going out there."
I went back inside, drenched from the spray and changed my clothes again....and decided I was going to watch a movie. That is when the power went out. I didn't know it until later, but two large trees blew over and took out powerlines. One of them hit a small transformer and there was a small explosion. I dug out the candles, lit them because it was so dark from the storm and the basement, even though its a walk-out was way to dark to navigate. I was left with nothing to do but take a nap. So, an hour and a half later, the Leaches called and said they were coming to visit with pizza. I told them we had no electricity and Jim said that was OK, he just needed a break from the work he was doing at home and since I couldn't leave, the were coming to me. Just before they arrived our power came on. We were sitting in the kitchen, listening to the roar of the wind and Jean said she would not want to live on the water. The asked me if I wanted to sleep over at their house because it would be safer but I told them, this backyard had never has water in it...even during that really bad storm that damaged the bulkhead years ago. The weather at her house had been windy but not like this...but its a 10 minute difference between our homes. We lost some flashing of the house along the roof line. I found it in the front yard. Lovely. We were laughing because the trees were stripped of most of their leaves. It actually looked like late fall but the leaves on the ground were green instead of scarlet and orange.
They headed home as it was getting dark. When Sam and Family came home at 10:30 PM., the poor boat had started to fill up with water. Sam wanted to turn the sump pump on and I told him it was useless, that the battery was underwater but he said he would bail. At that point the waves had calmed down enough and Cliff encouraged him to do it. Nancy and I said he could only if he wore a life vest and even though Cliff was out there, I went out also. We got Sam in the boat and he started scooping out water while I put a new line on the back of the boat and we put the floats back along the dock. The waves had pushed them out of the way earlier but it had calmed down enough that we could get them to stay. After I tied it up, and Sam got a lot of water out of the front, I went in the garage and found the hand pump. Cliff went inside and Sam and I pumped out the internal chamber by the engine. It really had to be done because the boat was back heavy at that point and more water was coming in. Once we got that done, we checked the other ties and then I noticed that there were two really new, really nice float cushions in the water, the ones that run about $40.00 each, so we used an oar and fished them out from Rays dock. Then we decided to string them between Sam's boat and the dock. We had to get back in the boat and take the anchor out and the attached rope. We unwound the end and cut rope off the other side so we wouldn't have to detatch the anchor. We had to stand in the kitchen, tape the rope, cut it, and with a candle, melt the ends so they wouldn't unravel. There was a pool of water under us and the towel that we were standing on was soaked. Cliff was on the sofa watching TV and I made him go find a candle and light it for me. Lets face it, he needed to be useful. lol. Once we went outside, attached the float and decided that was all we could do, Sam went in upstairs...I went in downstairs, ran for the bathroom and took a long hot shower. My Dartmouth sweatshirt was so darn heavy when I picked it up off the tile and tossed it in the washer.
Last year when we heard there was a storm headed our way we had the boat stored away because it was predicted to be bad. This morning, they heard that it wasn't supposed to be that bad....yeah, famous last words. Anyway, the poor boat is beat to hell. If the holes are above the water line, they can probably be fixed...if not, oh well! Those are the breaks of life I guess. The worst part is I found out from Sam that Nancy had taken a risk and had not insured the boat this year. I mean, they are friggin' lawyers and make a ton of money a year....so Why? I have no idea....but there wasn't anything else that could have been done to protect it, short of storing it away. Live and learn, live and learn

Ahhhhh.....

On a nasty day like this, well, its time for a little Matza ball soup from Ben's and some hot chocolate. Now all I need is some big hunkin' man to massage my shoulders and clean the house for me. Yeah, that would be swell.

You have to check this out...

My friend Tami is a hoot! She cracks me up. She has created a blog for each of her three children. OMG, when she writes for the kids, I laugh so hard. Tami always passed the best notes in high school. Seriously, one day I found shoved in my locker... a 2 page note on fish sticks...both pro and con. I wish I still had that note, I really do, I'd post that sucker in a heartbeat. Those are her girls. Meredith likes to put living creatures under things....you'll see. Her links are on my side bar but to make it easier, I'll stick them on here. She just blogged for Meredith and Stephanie....I'm sure she will post for Hayden soon.

Yeah, right!

Ok, everyone has to try this and let me know if they look anything like their closest match. Now, Martina was my closet match at 68%....but if they had Mindy Cohn aka Natalie from The Facts of Life in their system, I bet you ten bucks we would be a higher match. Trust me, my whole life I have heard how I resemble her, oh well, it could be worse I guess.

Feel the burn!

Sam went downstairs to do the exercises that his Dad insists he does everyday. He is supposed to do push-ups or use free weights. Two minutes later I find him doing a new kind of exercise called lounge surfing. You lay on two chairs because that has to be more comfy than the floor and you flip channels with the remote for the TV...like he is illustrating in this photo. Your fingers get mighty tired after a few hours of this kind of exertion....whew...I'm telling you, I'm exhausted just looking at this pic. Shhhh...I'm not supposed to mention this to his Dad. Posted by Picasa

I think I'm sea-sick...

Tropical Depression ERNESTO has really done it this time! I'm just glad we are not in its direct path or anything...I'd probably have to puke. We always wait until the last minute to do things that really should have been done right away. For example: Cliff decided that the sail boat and the canoe should be moved off of our dock and placed in their fall/winter positions. It's only because Ernesto has sent some wind and waves our way and the canoe was almost off the dock. We've lost them before in storms. So, what does this mean? It means, Sam and I have to move the stuff and in Cliffs perfect world, he wouldn't have to help. Ah Ha, but you see.... this is not Cliffs perfect world. Yep, that is why I said, "WE will help YOU move them." Sneaky, huh!

Luckily it was high tide and they were much easier to carry but the dock was really rocking. REALLY, REALLY ROCKING! I noticed that the front lead rope on the boat was fraying. One of the lines had snapped and with the way the boat was bouncing I told Sam that we needed to change it. Luckily I had bought a new tie the last time I was at the Marine store. I had to hold the bouncing boat while Sam tried to untie the part hooked to the boat. We never untie that part, just throw it onto the deck when we pull out. Finally, I had to have him go get something to cut it with and I had to hook a temporary tie to the boat so Sam could hold the boat while I cut the old rope in the waves and attached the new one. It was way to dangerous for him to do it. I'm telling you, it was NOT fun. I was bouncing all over the place and I finally had to make Sam sit in the boat and put his foot against the side so he could pull the rope and keep us from flopping around so much. After I attached the new lead, we tied her up...but the boat was banging against the dock with each wave. So we had to remove the center float and tie it up higher. I had to sit on the dock with my feet braced against the top of the boat so Sam could pull the float out and put it in the right spot. OMG...it had to be a funny, though slightly scary sight. The boat and the waves were pushing me backwards on the dock and because I was covered in the spray and wet to the core, my pants were sticking in one spot while my butt is slowly being pushed out of my pants. Seriously, those waves against the boat has a LOT of force. I'm yelling to at Sam to hurry, while he's laughing...because at this point about 4 inches of my silky panties are hanging out for the world to see...and when silky white underwear get wet...its see through. So, I'm just imagining the neighbors watching this wonderful display of tom-foolery. Sam is laughing so hard he can hardly tie the lead and I'm telling him to back up for a minute so I can pull my ass back into my capri jeans before I get a splinter. Oh yes...and I could feel the wind lifting the back of my shirt up, yep, and the spray was soaking me. Once the lead was tied, I could not stand up to pull my pants up....I had to do it laying down because I was afraid if I stood up that they would fall off me. I'm sure I looked like a clown. Dear Lord, why does this stuff happen to me?! Oh it gets better. Sam crawls back in the boat and I am hooking another float onto the side of the dock so the boat won't hit the wood when it bounces high on the waves and all of a sudden I look down and see the $180.00 I had shoved in my pocket (it was for school supply shopping) half sticking to the water on the dock and the other half rolling in the wind, an inch from the edge of the dock. I yelled,"OMG..the money!" Sam looks and gasps as I scramble for the cash, while trying to avoid the boat smashing my fingers when it bounces back against the spot where I am trying to put the float. I got it in time....whew....because, I would wave cried if I had lost even $20 bucks in the bay. I guess when my pants were being pushed off my butt, the money that was in the bottom of my pocket, worked its way upward. I looked at Sam and we both cracked up. We were a mess. Both of us were covered in salty spray and both of our eyes were as big as saucers. That is when I said, "Did you notice how quickly your Dad disappeared?" Which made us laugh even louder. "Then Sam said, "I thought you were going to jump in after that money." Believe me...I really thought about it for a spit second...then I figured, it could have been hazard pay for being out on that dock in those waves, exposing my rump crack to the world. I'm sure I could have been arrested if the bay constables had boated by.
When we went in the house, Cliff was laughing at us because we were soaked...not a single inch of us was dry and it wasn't even raining out. He didn't say anything about seeing my butt...but he did say he saw me almost fall head first into the boat when I was tugging on the lead an a huge gust of wind hit just as a huge wave hit us. I know exactly which time he was referring to...I thought I was going in too. Standing in the kitchen, Sam and I both felt like we were still on a boat....we were waving back and forth. I swear, another 10 minutes on that floating dock and I would have puked. It took about 20 minutes for us to lose that feeling. So, that my friends, is why Ernesto is no friend of mine.

The countdown begins...

Katies birthday is coming up. I just wanted to bring this to everyone's attention. I am mailing several packages to her today...and a few really funny things. I can't go into details in case she reads this. Anyway, I'll be in trouble for posting such a fun picture...she looks marvey...simply marvey. I have some little video clips from that day too...but I can't post them because she had language slip-ups. Yes, Katie spoke like a sailor. What else is new?!
Anyway, Katie has a 9-11 birthday and when the anniversary of something so tragic falls on your birthday, its hard to be jolly and care free. So, I try to send her things that will make her laugh, as well as something she wants. This year, I believe I have set the bar high for future birthdays. I wish I would have take a picture of one particular thing...but then again, besides the Katie girlie, I'm not sure anyone would understand it.
