The answer to what I did yesterday.

I had to go to a craft store to pick up something for a project I am making for Tami's birthday and while I was there I felt inspired. I look at all the pretty crochet work on everyone's site and I feel so left out. It had been years since I tried to crochet. I was never very good at it and I have no idea how to read the instructions. Looks like Greek to me. Anyway, I bought a a ball of the Sugar n' spice cotton by Lily. then I went home and dug out an F5 hook and decided I could make a simple dish cloth. I am happy to announce that my sides were the straightest they have ever been and I think my tension was pretty good too...not to tight not to loose, very even. So, that is the extent of my crocheting ability. It only took me two movies to get through with it, but I was taking snack breaks, bathroom breaks, blogging breaks...basically any break I could think of. It's hard for me to relax when I crochet. Maybe that would change if I did it more often. Anyway, I think I am going to see if my Mom wants this dish cloth, since she taught me how to crochet. If she isn't interested....I'll pass it on to someone that wants it.

I love the colors in this. I have no patience for crocheting at all, even though plenty of my relatives do it...good job though in setting your mind and doing it!

Thanks Rain! If Mom doesn't want it, you can have it.

Wowie!
Great job!

Are you hooked? No pun intended...

That is AWESOME. You did a great job. Now are you hooked yet??? LOL Reading the patterns are pretty easy. They are all abbreviatoins is all. Once you learn what they stand for its smooth sailing. You did really good.

Thanks Karen and Brandy...believe it or not...I'm not really hooked. I must say that I really liked using the cotton instead of regular acrylic yarn. It makes me wonder if I would be more incline to enjoy the feel of natural fibers. I don't know. I would seriously like to make those cute snowflakes for a christmas tree but I think that kind of thing is way over my head. I was telling Mom that she needed to check my site and tell me if she wanted the diahcloth, since she was the person that taught me years ago. I mentioned that I cant read the directions and she told me they were easy too. She said part of my problem is that I an dyslexic so she is sure that makes it more difficult but she thinks I can do it. SOOOO, she has a new job when I'm home. lol. In the mean time...I think I might practice by making dishcloths for my friends. Who knows, maybe I will switch between a single stitch and a double stitch....spice it up...lol. I just wish I was as relaxed when I crochet as I am when I do counted cross stitch or when I get out my glue gun to make something. Secretly, I would love to learn how to knit socks....I'm a sock nut...but I'm pretty sure that will never happen. You just never know with me. Sometimes I become driven and obsessive.

Twit wants you to make him a scarf. He says it's so speciest that there's all these fashionista little rat dog clothes and nothing for cats. He says how's he supposed to be fashionable kitty since he needs some new accessories. He keeps demanding a Designer collar and says if you loved him at all you would have bought the one you saw. I knew I shouldn't have taken him to see The Devil Wear Prada!

HEY! I bought Twit and Tooch those lovley bling blink collars when I was in the airport in MN. REMIND HIM OF THAT! Wait, did you actually tell him they were from me or did you take the credit for them?! Hmmmm, You know, I have some extra cotton sugar and spice yarn...perhaps I will make a litte scarf for Twit, but do we really want to raise a kitty that is so vain? You know, the next thing he will be doing is scarfing down the dried fish flakes...aka smackrel...and selling his leak gray body on the streets to feed his habit. We should encourage him to be more like Anns character.

Woo hoo! Awesome job, Annette! It's look so purty--nice and even and colorful.

Reading the directions is enough to make anyone go cross-eyed! They are just abbreviations, as Brandy said, but I'm always losing my place. If you made something simple like granny squares or a simple ripple blanket where you don't need the instructions after the first one, you may feel a little more comfortable.
Well, good luck with your future projects! I'm tickled pink!

I actually did start a rippled blanket once and I made my Mom finish it after I was over a quarter done. I was so tense the entire time I worked on it...I had to stop. You know, I think the key for me is to do small pieces first that would have to be hooked together like granny squares. Maybe I will start a project, but I think I have to have a material that I like touching....like the cotton. Regular acrylic yarn just doesn't do it for me. My sister needs to start spinning and treating all that material from her llamas. She just needs to learn to spin.

I started by making grannies. That was way before I knew how to read a pattern and they are very forgiving. Acrylic yarn is pretty icky except for Caron Simply Soft. It's pretty nice for an acrylic.

Does your sister have llamas? What does one do with llamas? (I'm a native New Yorker, these are mysteries to me!)

Well, my sister Tisha is a knitter and she loves alpaca fur. Anyway, they picked up three and she collects their fur but she needs to find someone to teach her how to spin in after it is treated and cleaned. I'll have to post some pictures of them...they are cute.

I have more dish cloths than any one person needs, so give it to Rain or whoever wants it.. I do think it is pretty and you did a great job on it, You know the old saying "practice makes perfect"
