Please! It's so sad, it makes me sick...

In my mind, religion is supposed to fuel the good in man. It is supposed to help us live our lives as more tolerant beings, more loving, more forgiving. Isn't the point of religion to make us better people? How many times have you met people that assume that people are good kind people because they are in Church every Sunday, without fail? But if you seriously think about it, just showing up doesn't earn you a one of God's golden tickets. He grades you on your conduct, not only in church but outside of its walls the other 6 days of the week. Plus, I think God is far more forgiving of our sins than we are of each others.
I was raised believing its not our place to judge other people, that is God's job. All we can do is live our lives in the best possible way we know how. That means taking those morals and values that were instilled in us and putting them to work. In this great country it also means being tolerant of others beliefs because after all, this country was founded on religious freedom for ALL. Perhaps that is why I get so upset when I hear about people of faith, causing pain to others. There is to much hate in this world, to much misunderstanding, to much intolerance. Instead of reaching out in kindness and trying to make a difference in the world, people show up at funerals of veterans and protest (read the Header link to see what I am talking about) at a time of great sadness for the soldiers family and friends. It makes me sick.
You know, its kind of like this whole mess with the Muslims, burning the Danish Embassy over the comic book showing an image of Mohammad. I can understand their reasons for being upset. I just don't understand how that leads to setting buildings on fire and killing people. You can't tell me that all the Danish people had a roll in publishing that book. It's generalizing. You know, the Amish do not believe in pictures of God, and that is also the reason they do not allow pictures of themselves to be taken, because man is in the image of God. You don't see them kicking some tourists ass every time they snap a picture of them or setting fire to their cars.
I can only hope that when my life comes to an end, I'm standing in line and this is what I hear from the man in front of us, telling us where to go:
"Let's see, I see you burnt down the Danish Embassy and took part in the planning of a suicide bombing that killed 7 people.....please step to the down elevator. NEXT....OK, you protested at funerals and hated people in the name of the all mighty, step to the down elevator.....NEXT,....you rarely attended church services but have shown great faith and I see you befriended all of Gods children.....we've been waiting for you, step right through the pearly gates, you will find your loved ones waiting for you. NEXT!...."

I mean really!

Michelle has us pegged, no doubt about it!

Michelle sent me this card...she likes to send me cards where "we" are spunky old ladies. It works for me because that is what we are going to be. Let's face it, we are young at heart and when we are together we have fun, even if we never leave the house, we just sit and giggle the night away like school girls. lol, ofcourse she knew that I would be the one saying, "Don't say it if you don't mean it!" Even though I can't picture Michelle flashing a car full of guys....more like she would want to be flashed by them. Right, Michelle?!

Thanks for the card Michelle, you always put a smile on my face and warm my heart with your chicken scratch. You always have such great timing too. Thank you for everything you do!

I'm a woman in need...

...in need of a good time. Not that kind of good time, jeesh...well, on second thought, that would be alright too. lol. I have a lot of restless energy right now. I need to play a prank or something. Maybe I just need a really good laugh. I don't know. I just want to hang out with some silly, dirty minded freaks for a few hours to get this out of my system so I can go back to my sweet normal self. Stop laughing! I am too...I am sweet and I fit my definition of normal, but you sure don't.

Gumball Machines.....

I have a small gumball machine collection. My Dad is now displaying them in his den...aka the dungeon. What is it about these stupid machines that will send kids in to convolutions if they are not allowed to put a nickel, dime or quarter into it, turn the dial and get a hand full of crappy candy? As a kid, you would run to the machines when you entered the Grocery store, or the gas station, you would eye it with anticipation. Could you really behave well enough during that visit to receive a coin for your farewell? MAN, that meant you couldn't beg for all those sugary treats and cereals, you couldn't touch every box, bottle and can in the store. You had to stay out of the way so the little old ladies didn't get annoyed that you were blocking their way down the aisle. That was a lot to ask.
I was a fan of the bouncy balls. Back when I was a kid they were ten cents. If you were lucky, you could get a bouncy ball...but you would still turn all the cranks on the candy machines, you would lift the flaps to see if you got lucky and someone had missed a gumball. Usually you would just find peanut....blah, who wanted that. If you were lucky you would have gotten the bouncy ball with the swirled colors or better yet the clear ball with the glitter inside it. MAN, that was the bomb!
The pathetic thing is that I still get excited when I walk into a store and see those machines. I have to scan them to see if there is anything worth wasting a quarter on. Usually there isn't.
You will be happy to know, that after 35 years, I have finally given up on getting the ring out of the machine. I always get something stupid instead, like tattoos.

Whoa!

Someone had way to much time on their hands.....but it did make me chuckle. Check out this website.

Redneck Wednesday

I almost forgot that today was a special posting day. How could I do such a thing! Anyway, this is in honor of Pop and Uncle Lonnie...because this picture contains two of their favorite things...beer and fish. Can't get any better than that I guess.

The view from my side of the street...

When I was a little girl we lived in Pawnee City Nebraska. For most of that time we lived across the street from the public library. This was the view from the front of the house. I can honestly say that the house across the street from the library holds the most wonderful memories for me of my youth. We moved when I was 6 but I can still draw you a map of the house, inside and out. I can tell you where the furniture sat and what the wallpaper looked like. I can still taste the metal brackets on the railing going up the stairs. It tasted like pennies. Why the hell would I lick the bracket? Who knows, I was a strange child.

The front yard was huge when I was a kid. When I look at it now, I don't see how I ever thought that. I wore the wheels of my big wheel riding to the end of the sidewalk in from of out next door neighbors, Mrs Barr's house and back to the edge of the alley that ran between our house and the Post Office. I wasn't allowed to cross the alley alone, for fear of suffering my Mother's wrath. There was a bakery/ candy shop on the other side of the post office. I used to sneak money our of my piggy bank ( Uncle Randy showed me that little trick) and I would sneak to the bakery, get a fresh doughnut and sneak back before I got caught. The lady at the bakery finally asked my Mom if she knew I was doing that. That kind of put a damper that. I also used my big wheel as a torture device. I chased the butcher off the sidewalk because he used to tease me when we were in the grocery store. He finally got smart and walked on the other side of the street.
On the side of the house was a tiny, very tiny walnut tree. It was such a young tree that it barely gave off any shade at all. I would take a little baby blanket and sit in that itty bitty shade. As the sun moved and the shade creeped off of me, I would move my blanket and reposition myself. I usually had a dolly or a stuffed animal, but usually Tisha was there and I would have to get her to move off the blanket so I could catch the shade for us. The librarian told my Mother that she used to love watching us play on front and side lawn. She had a perfect view of us out the front door when she sat at the main desk. I can imagine that it was comical. I remember walking around the yard, in a fog of make believe, day dreaming and singing silly made up songs when I got tired of singing..."Yes, Jesus loves me, .....for the bible tells me sooooo!" I loved that song! I wish I had a penny for ever minute I spent on the swing set in the back yard. I'd be rich! I pumped back and forth and back and forth....and sang my made up songs. I also spent hours running under a sprinkler and picking flowers aka weeds.

I used to color all the time. I loved coloring books and I had a huge tub full of crayons that we kept in a old gallon ice cream bucket. One morning I had been laying on the big front porch coloring. I ran off to play in the back yard and for got about the crayons which as the sun moved through the sky ended up sunlight and melted. My Mom had to empty the container out on newspaper and separate them so they would harden and not be in one giant lump.

This was also the place that I had my famous stand down with a big squirrel. I was doing a balance beam show on the curb that ran up the drive way to the garage. I was looking down so I wasn't really paying attention to anything but my foot placement. There were squirrels that use to raid the walnuts by the garage. Well, that day one was also running along the curb in my direction. Neither of us saw each other until we were within 3 feet of each other. We both froze in fear, them turned at the same time and ran for our lives. They are evil little creatures you know.

Then there was the year that Uncle Randy came to live with us and he got my room....it was MINE. I loved playing in the closet in my room and he used to kick me out and I would inform him that it was my room first so I was sure I could play in the closet if I wanted to. Then there was the time that I was playing with Dixie cups that I cut little "V"'s in to make tepees for my imaginary Indian village. I opened the door to the bathroom to get more cups and Randy was in the bath tub...and preceded to yell at me to get out. I was short, I didn't see anything and besides, what was the big deal? People were always in the bathroom when I was taking a bath. My Sister also locked her self in that bathroom...lol, when she was maybe 2 years old. That was a mess trying to calm her down and get her to unlock the door. Dad also fell asleep in that upstairs bathtub while he was in the thud and it ofcourse over flowed all over the place. My Mom had to sweep water out the back door of the house....it was pretty bad.

I dropped my rock bracelet down the heat vent in the living room. I cried forever over that. Lorie and Chad made me laugh when I had a mouth full of peach juice and it sprayed all over the new wall paper in the dining room. Mom was pissed. Once,my bird was out of its cage and we had to go somewhere...so when we got home we were going to put him back in his cage but that is when we discovered that he must have flown upstairs and into the big bedroom...which was missing a screen on the little side window...and AWAY HE WENT. Then there was the time that lightening followed the power line into the house and blew out the light on the deep freeze.

Who could forget the time I embarrassed my mom. Remember those old Avon commercials. Well, they had a slogan that had a door bell ring, DING DONG...and then the words, "Avon calling." Well, our Avon lady was walking onto the porch and I saw her through the screen door and I yelled...as only I could, "MOM, THE DING-DONG LADY IS HERE!" Everyone had a good laugh over it later.

Seriously, that house was a mecca of fun and frolic. I loved it there...even if Randy stole my room. I forgave him for it before he passed away.

KATIE! You did what?!

Our Katie was the nude model for an art class at school and she posted oneof the pictures on her website. Check it out by clicking this link.

I'm not giving in!

Sam wants a dog. Sam has wanted a dog for 8 years. Sam has found a loop hole and now he thinks that he is going to get a dog. He's not going to give up and the kid is going to harass me until he gets one. What is his loop hole? Well, it involves me. His Dad said that if I wanted a dog, and that the dog was my responsibility then..and only then can there be a dog in this house. Here is the problem, I don't want a friggin dog. I have nothing against dogs, nothing at all. I actually love goldens but I don't want a dog. In three years when Sam goes to college, I'm going to be stuck with a dog. Plus...I know for a fact that Sam, who claims he will help care for the dog, won't agree with me as to what that means. I think that dogs must be walked...atleast twice a day, but three times a day is better. I'm not talking a little stroll down the street, I mean really walked. That doesn't mean, just letting him run around the back yard for a little bit. Sam seems to think once a day is fine. The neighbors have two dogs and they really don't walk them and he says they are healthy so that proves his point. Not going to happen. He also doesn't understand that someone has to pick up the doggie poo every day. He thinks once a week is fine. I disagree. Plus I like to go barefoot in the back yard....with a dog I can't do that...cause its gross. Nope, its not going to happen. I don't want to clean up doggie fur or wipe the nose marks off of the windows. I don't want to smell wet dog everytime in rains.......No, no, no.
I will be strong, I won't let him show me puppy pictures and owww and ahhh over how cute they are. No. I will stand fast and refuse to let him drag me to a pound. Do you know what Sam said to me last friday on the way to his music lesson? He said, "I know you better than you know yourself. If you go look at some dogs, you will want one. You won't be able to resist it once you see it and start petting it." The sad part is that he is right....I would want one. Yep, why do you think I never ask to see the puppies or kittens at the pet store. I look at them and say, oh how cute...wittle puppie wuppies, ittle kittie witties. I DON'T TOUCH THEM...I'd be done for. I've got about three years of Sam begging for a dog in front of me. Crap, I may have to quit my job. I'm not sure I can handle three years of puppy harassment. I'm a cat person, damn it! I'm just going to keep telling myself that I will be strong and not give in. I'm so screwed.

Where have I been?

I have not left a post in several days. Not like me? Well, I usually post some crazy picture or something in the absence of a good blabber tale,I know. I guess I have not been in the mood to write about anything. That doesn't mean that nothing has been happening. I just have not been in a blogging mood. Maybe tomorrow.

Done!

I finished making Kelley's banner for her 16th birthday. I was getting ready to glitter the design, hence the glue in the far, top, right-hand corner. I have to mail it either on Sat. or Monday. I need to have it to her Mom before the 14th. Kelley was a Valentine's Day baby. I'm done with banners for a while. I have to be in the mood to make them. Posted by Picasa

Just a peak...

I told Michelle that I would post a picture of my quilt....so here is just a little peak. You get the basic idea of the colors and the pattern. I just don't think I need to post a full picture of my bedroom. A girl has to have her secrets...lol. Posted by Picasa

Our new baby

Well, we got the new Honda a few weeks ago. I love this car. It's a 5 speed clutch and it shifts like butter. Smooth, smooth, smooth. I do like a manual transmission. It still has that new car smell...mmmm, isn't that the best. All week it sits at the trainstation but on the weekends, its all mine. Ah, life is good! I tend to prefer a Toyota but this little Honda is sweet. Who would have guessed. Posted by Picasa

Hmmmm

Well, that sucks. Where is the fun in that?
Fortunes bite. Who's writing these things anyway?
SHEESH!

Awww, FLASH BACK...

Does anyone remember this phrase? "Turn the record over and we will continue on the other side." I loved those little 45 record/story books. Loved them! I use to put them on my little record player and play them over and over again. CD's are dandy, Tapes are grand but records are the bomb. I love them. I know we have a few packed away from our childhood. I'm surprised they are not worn thin from all the play time they got with me in charge of swinging that arm over and finding the groove without scratching the record. Frankly you know I must have played them a lot if I can remember that phrase at the end of side one so well. Surely, I can't be the only one.

You are Tagged too!

I have been tagged by my Cousin Kip.
He says I must list 8 points to my perfect lover.
Then I have to name the sex of my lover and tag 8 more people.
If you read this, you are tagged. AH HA!.
Here we go:

1. They must be able to put up with my family and crazy extended family. Not an easy task by any means. Don't let them sense your fear. Yeah, that means occationally traveling to Nebraska to visit them.

2. A sense of humor is a must....especially in respect to #1, plus I like to torment those that I love.

3. Must not try to cuddle me all night long. Play time is play time, but when it is time to sleep, roll over and keep off my side of the bed. I'm HOT blooded damn it!

4. Must be open minded and willing to try new things outside your comfort zone. Don't worry, nothing to kinky....JEZ, I'm talking travel or activities that are foreign to them.

5. Must be handy with things. If you can't even screw in a lightbulb, you are not the right guy for me. I like doing renovations and yard work.

6. Must help do household chores. 50/50 buddy, don't think you are going to sit on your butt while I clean the whole house so you can mess it up. A man that does household chores was raised right.

7. Must love kids and be willing to have a few or adopt a few....perhaps even be a foster parent.

8. Must be a nice guy. Nice guys don't come in last in my book.

And: This person would be a big lug of a man.

Gotcha! Man life is GOOD!

To read the back of this lotto card, click on the image. Trust me....you'll want to read it after you read about what happened to my Uncle Gary.
You know, sometimes they fall and they fall hard. So, Uncle Gary won my last contest, right....and I sent him a lotto ticket like I did the last time he won. Only, this time....lol...Mwhahahaha...I sent him one of those fake lotto tickets that are always a big winner. Yep! I really didn't think he would fall for it. I figured that he would notice the fine print on the back and pass it off on someone else. Lucky for me, he didn't read the back...he just scratched off the card and got a little excited. The way I hear it, he had Wendy and Reese look at the ticket to make sure that he was seeing the right amount of zeros. lol, I have been laughing about this for hours...yes, hours...he completely fell for it. Awwww, life is good. Gary, always read the fine print...ALWAYS! I mean the ticket was from me...and we all know that I'm sneaky.
Now, I should take this moment to mention that I have not even thought about pulling out the big guns. I've been using the old cork gun...but if Uncle Gary really wants to declare WAR....I'll get my bag of tricks out. I don't think anyone really wants that to happen.

Ok, the real Redneck Wednesday...

What do you mean, "What is it?" Why that's a Jet Ski! Aunt Vickie calls first ride!

UNCLE GARY!

Whoa! lol, I got an email a little bit ago from old Uncle Gray...I mean Gary. Yeah, he's flipping me a double birdie. I bet he doesn't have the proper license to fly those birdies either! For shame. The subject line of the email was: "WAR." The only writing was this: "Not funny, boy am I going to get you." Hmmmm, what could I have done this time? Does anyone else know? Mwahahahaha!
